CAMT.053 is the ISO 20022 XML statement with which banks are gradually replacing the text MT940. Here is what accounting actually needs from it and how it differs from what you are used to importing.

What CAMT.053 contains
The file is a Bank To Customer Statement message. It carries the account identification, currency, balances and a list of transactions, each with an amount, direction, booking date and additional details about the counterparty and references.
- Balances are distinguished by type, for example the opening and closing booked balance.
- Transactions can be booked or pending.
- Technically, one file can contain several statements.
CAMT.053 and MT940
MT940 is a text format with tags and limited field lengths. CAMT.053 is structured XML with richer payment details. For your accounting software, what matters is which format its import service can read.
How to get CAMT.053 into POHODA

How to tell you really have CAMT.053
Banks sometimes call other files an XML export as well. You can recognise a CAMT.053 statement by a few signs you can check even in a plain text editor.
- The Document root element contains a BkToCstmrStmt message.
- Each statement sits in a Stmt element with the account identification and currency.
- Balances in Bal elements have a type, typically OPBD for the opening and CLBD for the closing booked balance.
- Transactions are in Ntry elements with the status BOOK for booked and PDNG for pending entries.
- The file usually has the .xml extension, sometimes .camt or .053.
Frequently asked questions
Are CAMT.052 or CAMT.054 the same thing?
No. CAMT.052 is an intraday account report and CAMT.054 a notification of individual payments. The statement for a period is CAMT.053.
What happens to unbooked transactions?
Only booked transactions go into the conversion, so the result matches the booked balances of the statement.
Why does VýpisFlow reject a file with several statements?
